In the first three chapters, there are three parties to begin the book. The first was Daisy and Tom's party at their house, the second was Myrtle's party at her apartment in New York, and the third was Jay Gatsby's party at his luxurious estate. Each party is thrown at a different location with a different crowd. For example, Myrtle is seen as lower class and not as wealthy, so her party will be different than Jay Gatsby's top class and wealthy party where attractions of his party are things such as his Roll's Royce or his beach.
Daisy's party was the first in the book. Nick goes to his second cousin's house (Daisy) where he is met by Tom, Daisy, and Jordan. Tom is a muscular man who owns the Georgian-Colonial house where the party takes place. For it being a party, there were only a couple guests there. The house is located in the East Egg, representing established and classy wealth, unlike the West Egg where it was new money and spending that new money. Tom and Nick were talking until they walked in the room, where the mood drastically changed when Tom enters. Later, Tom hit Daisy and she poked at him calling him "hulking". After that, Jordan was speaking with Nick and talking to him about tom's affair with a girl from New York, which we come to find out is Myrtle. The whole party was filled with awkward encounters and ends with an awkward dinner, where after that Jordan went to bed because she had a golf tournament the next day and Nick leaves for home.
The second party was in Myrtle's apartment. Myrtle and her husband are lower class. Their garage or house is in the Valley of Ashes, which is an unpleasant and poorer place. Myrtle is Tom's mistress that was talked about at Daisy's house. They all go to new York via train and head to her apartment. This party was more drinking, conversation, and it involved many more guests. People were coming and going, drinking whiskey and having conversations or arguments the whole evening. But, at one point Myrtle had said Daisy, Tom didn't like it very much and they began arguing. tom had then hit Myrtle, causing her nose to bleed and everyone had left after that. People were waking up from their drunken sleep because of the commotion that was caused by Tom and Myrtle. Nick had caught the 4 a.m. train back to West egg where the chapter ends.
The third party was the Gatsby party. The setting for his party was his massive West egg household, representing new wealth, spending, and showing off. Guests would fantasize over his Roll's Royce, his personal beach, swimming pool, gardens, and orchestra playing under the stairs. The party would occur from nine in the morning onto well after midnight. These parties were more lively and contained a lot more people. Myrtle and Daisy's parties were more about conversation and drinking, while Gatsby's were more for being wild and entertaining. Music is playing while the whole scenery around the guests is that of luxury and overwhelming wealth. Gatsby's party is all about taking in the house and the attractions around it for a more interesting and entertaining time.
Out of all of the parties, I would like to attend Myrtle's the most as it is more relaxing and has a better vibe to it. Daisy's party only consisted of four people and it was very awkward to be there. Gatsby's party was very overwhelming and seems as if someone can get lost in their environment. But, Myrtle's was in her apartment in New York City, where people were just talking and drinking. Seems more fun than an unsettling get-together at Daisy's and seems less overwhelming than a profuse Gatsby party.
